Lo Fu 1928  " Darkness has given me black eyes. Instead I use them to search light."

His well known work "Death of a Stone Cell " can be described as a vast canvas upon which the great themes of life, death, love, and war are painted. Lo Fu described the poem as “a portrait of man’s uncertainty and anxiety in modern life; a lonely outcry wrung from between life and death, love and hate, gain and loss.”

Read more about him on Poetry International Web

Gu Cheng 1956-1993 " Darkness has given me black eyes. Instead I use them to search light."

One of the well-known 'Misty' poets. The son of the army-poet Gu Gong, he spent four years in a remote part of Shandong province during the Cultural Revolution. Despite (or because of) his celebrity, his first collection of poetry Hei yanjing [Eyes of darkness] was not published until 1986. From the mid-1980s, his work became increasingly experimental and he eschewed the brilliant lyricism and complex metaphoric textures of his early phase. He wrote several extended cycles or suites including Bulin dang'an [The Bulin file], Songge shijie [Eulogy worlds] and Shuiyin [Quicksilver]. He committed suicide after killing his wife Xie Ye in New Zealand in 1993. The posthumous 'novel' Ying'er, translated into English under the same title, deals with his life outside China.

Works available in English:
·Nameless flowers: selected poems by Gu Cheng (Aaron Crippen). New York, N.Y.:George Braziller, 2005.

· Selected Poems by Gu Cheng (ed. by Seán Golden and Chu Chiyu). Hong Kong:Renditions Paperbacks, 1990.

· Ying'er: The Kingdom of Daughters (Li Xia). Dortmund: Projeckt Verlag, 1995.

Sook Yin’s students are having picnic and drawing session at studio LDA

Education is not about “A”s. If you are able to help these children to built confidence and interest in learning, “A”s would naturally be with them for the rest of their life.
Sook Yin from studio LDA shares with all parents.

A “Surprise” from Beyond, sadly unheeded.
Some friends were the fan of this rock group from Hong Kong during Jia Chi’s time. So when they saw the clip “mushi-mushi”, they asked about the album.

It’s my pleasure to introduce this album that I love so much to my friends. I think this album take a bit of maturity for appreciation. It’s not the light and easy type you swing along.

There are altogether 9 songs plus a piece music recorded:

  1. Home coming – It reminds me of my feeling of coming back to Malaysia after much hesitation if I would stay in UK after graduation.
  2. Mist – Quite an interesting parallel to the Malaysia haze. Becoming almost seasonal ?!
  3. Deep – A wonderful exploration of elusive human characters.
  4. Surprise – A reflection of how most people live these days.
  5. Alright alright – Check it out from the August pic of the month free download, and read a little more from the LDA blog.
  6. I remember –  A reminder to keep one’s dignity as you go on with life.
  7. Piss off – Sometimes it is exactly how I feel about certain people.
  8. Tsing Ma bridge – Definitely an asian number music. A bit jazzy in it’s approach.
  9. Latency –  Can’t remember much at the time I write this blog.
  10. An immortal tale – This is the number I like least. But it’s a bit like the old number.

Don’t forget. Get the original !! Enjoy!

An opinion about Japan prime minister visit to  war shrine.

"Mushi-mushi and bits of historical snapshots" You just have to respect mistakes, however ridiculous they are. So you can learn from it and don’t let it happen again. “Alright, alright .” is just not alright.

“Mushi-mushi” in Cantonese (You could hear the words sound again and again in the song.) which literally means “nothing has happened”, when read in the syntax of Japanese, means “Hello, hello”. Cynical?

"In the name of civilisation." Pic by Sook Yin, words by Look - Development and progress are always such positive words. While they are made under the disguise of civilisation , justifying the boundless human wants and greed, civilization is developing like desire of a moth for fire. The consequence would be self destruction.

"Carefree ceativity "  This is my thinking trend: - the installer. (creativity at work?) - the maintenance worker. (such carefree attitude!) - the  neighbourhood. (such tolerance level.)- the policing. (..what ever will be will be…).

" It's mine ! ". This picture was taken in a small town. The papaya tree was found planted on the public road side table. The “owner” was so concern of the fruit being stolen; he built this temporary structure to hoard up the tree. Think about it. Life? Design ? Art ?

malacca voices from the street  by Lim Huck Chin, Fernando Jorge. Fisrt published in Malaysia, 2006.

Get the book from Kinokuniya bookshop at KLCC!
" We began by listening to the voices of ordinary Malaccans. We listened to the city's street, as we searched out the hidden corners and abandoned alleyways. Listened to houses and temples, ruins and cemetries. Even to the murmurs and whispers of empty spaces. We listened at every turn, at every step. To the living and the dead. The past and the present. In the hope the story of an extraordinary place and its people would be told. and we heard them speak."

Hate love song

Love songs; probably the most dominant theme of pop songs. As if there is nothing else more important in life. So are you doing it for your love? Trend? Yourself?.... Or is it just a mindless swing? I found this album on my shelf covered with dust.Love to share it with you. I still love it.
The script was translated from the Chinese album " Bobby hates love songs."

For reason of your liking,
I have often forgotten about myself.
Love is a crazy thing. Too much of it is not necessary good.
I could not simply let myself happily hum...
They said you loved love songs, to share bitterness in your heart.
Don’t be like a spoiled kid; constantly say “I’ll sing you love songs.”
Often lonely, at night, I worried that I might have lost myself.
I realize now I have been wondering, should I stop one day would you leave me?
So I make myself hate love songs
And pretend that I don’t care
Maybe I no longer try to please you
I just like myself as it is
So I make myself hate love songs
And pretend that I don’t care
Maybe you have never said it.
Just that I am thinking too much.
I realize that I was one that loved wondering.

They say you loved love songs, to share bitterness in your heart.
